This has been an awesome week!05/12/14

Hello everyone! I hope I can remember all that I want to say to everyone today.

First of all... WE HAD A BAPTISM! His name is José. To be honest, I don't count it as my first baptism because I didn't teach him anything. My companion and her other companion taught him everything, I just came and stole it. lol But I have pictures! :D

 I actually have a lot of pictures to send this week. I hope I can send them all in one e-mail.

Seriously. There are a bunch of jokes that San Luis is where Satan comes to vacation. They also say that San Luis Rio Colorado is the hottest place on Earth. I don't know if that's true, but it certainly feels like it. I am literally living in the desert. LITERALLY. Like, there's sand (EVERYWHERE), cacti, and not a cloud in the sky. (My companion told me that once it sprinkled outside and she and her companion had to record it in their journals because that NEVER happens.) But yeah. There's a ridiculous amount of sand here.

Interesting things that happened:
1.) We have an investigator that had been listening to the missionaries before, but had a lot of problems with drugs and whatever, and then disappeared. He reappeared on Monday or Tuesday (I don't remember) and is completely clean. Not only that, but he already has a testimony of the Book of Mormon and has been preaching the gospel to people. Yeah. The only two things that he's missing is to get married to his girlfriend/mother of his child and go to church two more Sundays. It's pretty legit.

2.) We got an object lesson from a inactive member of the church. He knows a lot and has a really strong testimony, but can't seem to bring himself to go to church on Sunday. (He promised us he would go, but didn't show. Sad day.)

Interesting things that are going to happen:

We're going to have a baptism on Wednesday! It's an investigator that my companion had been teaching before with her other companion.

What else... Um.... I have no clue. I'm doing okay, other than the fact that I feel like I'm melting all the time and I have to meticulously use sunscreen to keep from getting burned. Pray for me please!

TRANSFERS! I want to ride my bicycle...04/28/14

HELLO EVERYONE! So, today we had transfers! And I am now in.... SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, SONORA! A different state in Mexico and IT IS HOT HERE. Not just that, but.... I HAVE A BICYCLE! Well, it's not mine, but I will be using it for the next 6 weeks, so basically it's mine. haha My companion's name is Hermana Reyna and she has only been on her mission for 3 months (she just finished training) so I will be senior companion. This is going to be an interesting transfer.

In other news, I HAVE PICTURES! WOOHOO! Not sure which ones I'm going to send, but we'll see.

No hay nada nuevo esta semana...04/14/14

Really, everything is the same. But with more news on Juan. He doesn´t remember anything! We asked him if he knew who Joseph Smith is and he said, "An apostle, right?" I mean, at least he knew that he´s someone important, but now we have to start ALL OVER AGAIN. And we´re taking it slow.

Um... What else? I really don´t have any idea what else to write. I´m doing well... Spanish is going well. There´s still a lot that I´m not sure about and a lot that I don´t understand, but I communicate sufficiently.

Um.... Not sure what else.

OH! I don´t remember if I told you this, but I have found a new love... Fútbol. Today we played as a zone, and while I´m not super good, it´s super fun. And the Élderes were really patient with me, teaching me stuff. I might have to start watching soccer when I get back. (Though during the world cup I don´t know who I would root for if Mexico was playing against Italy. But that´s a problem for future me.)

I´m not sure what pictures I have... Let´s see:

My First "Fall" in Mexico

Yes, I know that it's still Spring. Let me explain.

On Friday we recieved a text message from the sister that we were going to eat with that said that she had to go to Tijuana. So we didn't get to eat in our sector. Instead, we went to Volcanes. (Farther away and with Hna. Price and her companion.) Volcanes is completely dirt. We were walking down a hill, and since my shoes are rather smooth on the bottom, I fell. Hence, "First 'fall'". Yup! (Pictures attached. Not for the faint of heart.)

So... Juan will NOT be getting baptized this week. We went to visit him and... HE HAD A CIGARETTE IN HIS HAND. I nearly burst into tears. My companion didn't see it, so we have to confirm BUT I AM REALLY SAD. So, sorry for the false alarm! But I will not be having a baptism this week.

On Wednesday we had... EXCHANGES! I went with Hermana Fergadiz to Porticos again and I really enjoyed myself! I learned a lot and discovered (according to Hna. Fergadiz) that I am really good at teaching by the spirit. (Something that I thought I lacked.) So, WOOHOO! (Pictures attached.)

I don't know why, but my companion and I have been ridiculously stressed lately... To the point where we both felt like we were going to explode. Yeah. So please keep us in your prayers!

I'm not sure what else to say, so I'm just going to attach pictures.

I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES!/CREO EN MILAGROS!

HOLA!

So, I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to write this week because I didn't write the stuff down because I was really tired last night.

SO, Yesterday was, as they say down here, "Bien suave!" (really cool) Because two really awesome happy-making things happened. 

1.) There's an inactive married couple that we've been visiting since the beginning of my mission. They never wanted to go to church, pray, or read the scriptures. (With good reason; only one of them knows how to read.) BUT, recently, la hermana has been super excited about the church. She's been praying and we were going to have an FHE with her and her husband and she was super duper excited and even made pozole! (Which we didn't get to eat because it wasn't done until well after we had to go home. It got late and her husband didn't show up because he was working late or something.) ANYWAYS, THEY BOTH WENT TO CHURCH YESTERDAY! I almost cried when I saw them. I don't know if any of you know this, but it's super special for me when the inactives/less-actives are attending church. Why? Because I have so many inactive family members and it gives me hope that one day everything will be better.

2.) We talked with one of our investigators that we've had for a while. His name is Juan. And... HE'S GOING TO GET BAPTIZED!!!!!!!! I'M FINALLY GOING TO HAVE MY FIRST BAPTISM! Okay, technically it's not final and I will tell you why:

- We have been placing baptismal dates from the beginning. The problem is that he and his family are VERY Catholic. Not just that, but they are also from an indigenous tribe here in Mexico called (and I don't really know how it's spelled, just how to say it) Purépeche. It is well known here that indigenous people don't like change and are very very strong in their beliefs. So, we have been working really hard with him for the past two months and some. He's gone to church 5 times already (which is the minimum number to be able to be baptized in this mission) and says that he has already seen a change in his life. He's found a job that allows him to have weekends off and told us that he has never felt this way before. The problem is: He hasn't prayed to know that it's all true. We know that he knows that it's true because he's told us his feelings and we know that he knows that so much good can only come from God. Not only that, but when we told him that he needed to quit smoking and drinking coffee, he stopped. No problem. He loves the Word of Wisdom and thinks that it's super great! So, here's how I know that this time, it's real: Yesterday, Hna. Espinoza asked him something along the lines of, "If you pray and receive your answer before April 10th, will you follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized on that day?" (except in Spanish). He answered a firm, and solemn, "Sí." In that moment, I felt the Spirit so strongly that I almost burst into tears. (I restrained myself, don't worry.) I know without a shadow of a doubt that he will receive that answer. And I knew in that moment that he was going to be baptized. And it was one of the most beautiful moments of my life.

Now, for other things that don't matter as much.

P.S. Proof that the gift of tongues is real: We had interviews with the mission president and he basically told me that I have achieved a miracle with my Spanish in these 3 almost 4 months in Mexico. Woohoo! Love you!
